Dallas County Peace Officers Association - Mentoring Program The Dallas County Peace Officers Association – Mentoring Program offers assistance to Dallas area students promoting academic excellence and leadership training. The DCPOA works with students who are identified by school counselors as having academic potential, but are not connected to school and | or are on the verge of dropping out of school. DCPOA mentoring program operates within the County of Dallas, Dallas, Texas. The basic philosophy of the DCPOA program is that every student can succeed and the involvement of the students, parents and school as a team, are crucial. When students joins the program, he | she along with the parent must sign an agreement committing to the goals of the program. Training and social activities are planned and implemented throughout the year involving students, parents and work-site mentors for the purpose of building knowledge and communication on issues that affect families and youth. Students must attend a class in their respective schools, where they maintain a positive attitude and good grades. Students who join the program are committed to: Ø Maintaining good attendance in school. Ø Reach and maintain a C grade average at minimum or better. Ø Develop and follow a plan focused toward High School graduation. Students participating in the program will receive: Ø Educational opportunities. Ø Developing leadership skills. Ø Social development with fellow students. Ø Turtoring with home work assignments. Ø The value of spending and saving money. Ø Safety tips. Ø Black History. The DCPOA mentoring program provides various social and educational experiences to enhance student’s self-esteem and develop quality leadership skills.
